PorchLight Partners With The Adoption Exchange & CBS4 for “A Day For Wednesday’s Child” Telethon
DENVER—April 5, 2016—PorchLight Real Estate Group, led by Amy and Carol Bayer, recently announced The Adoption Exchange as its charitable partner for 2016. Each year, PorchLight chooses a different non-profit to work with, raising awareness and funds as part of its company-wide focus on philanthropy. As the 2016 partner, PorchLight has committed to donating at least $20,000 to The Adoption Exchange and is serving as a corporate partner for its “A Day for Wednesday’s Child” telethon.
This annual telethon, which will be televised live on CBS 4 on April 6, 2016, raises funds that go toward helping children in foster care find forever families. Last year’s telethon raised $84,637. PorchLight volunteers—agents, staff and members of the leadership team—will be manning the phone bank for two hours of the telethon—from 5 - 6pm and again from 10 - 11pm.
“I’m so happy PorchLight has chosen The Adoption Exchange as its nonprofit partner for 2016,” says PorchLight broker Susie Best. “I have a very personal connection to the organization, as I adopted a teenager myself, years ago, through The Adoption Exchange. I know how they positively impact the lives of so many children, so we’re thrilled to be supporting them in this way."
CBS4 anchor Britt Moreno will host A Day for Wednesday’s Child, introducing children who are waiting on homes and sharing success stories. This year, The Adoption Exchange is introducing The Big Cash Raffle, hosted by the Wednesday’s Child Connection Guild, which includes a chance to win up to $62,500 and supports the critically important work of The Adoption Exchange. PorchLight agent Nancy Austin will be pulling the winning raffle ticket during the telethon’s 10 p.m. hour.
In Colorado, more than 5,000 children are in foster care and hundreds of these children are available for adoption. Last year, more than 20,000 children nationwide were emancipated from the state’s care without ever having found a permanent family. Since The Adoption Exchange officially opened its doors in 1983, the non-profit organization has helped connect nearly 8000 children with loving homes and responds to approximately 20,000 adoption inquiries each year from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 64 foreign countries. A Day for Wednesday’s Child helps raise enough money to provide basic recruitment services for more than 50 children in need of loving, permanent homes each year.
“Our agents and staff are dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work,” said Bayer. “Partnering with The Adoption Exchange is an opportunity that not only benefits thousands of children, but also offers an unforgettable opportunity for our PorchLight family.”
PorchLight, which was recently recognized for its community service efforts by the Denver Metro Realtors Association, emboldens philanthropic efforts throughout the company. Agents are encouraged to use charitable drives, fundraisers and volunteer days as an opportunity to not only give back, but connect with their neighbors and clients as well. Through "PorchLight United" teams, they rally fellow agents and their clients around a singular cause. Past projects have included an Extreme Community Makeover, spending a service day improving local Denver neighborhoods, and "Clean Sweep," an event where people could drop off their electronics, paint and paper to be recycled, properly disposed of, or shredded for a suggested donation to the McAuliffe International School to buy new basketball hoops.
In 2015, PorchLight partnered with Urban Peak as their year-round charitable partner. Through events open to agents, staff, clients and friends, PorchLight raised and donated more than $19,000 to Urban Peak to assist in their efforts to serve teens experiencing homelessness.
