Welcome to Barnum West
Like its neighbor to the east, Barnum West takes its name from circus frontman P.T. Barnum, who purchased land in 1878 that would later make up the twin neighborhoods. Barnum West lies between 6th Avenue, Perry Street, Alameda Avenue, and Sheridan Boulevard and benefits from its central and accessible location to Denver, Lakewood, and all points west.
Modest brick ranches and tidy framed cottages dot manicured yards here, and, for many houses, the pride of ownership and community is evident. But as one of the most affordable areas in Denver city limits, there are still “diamonds in the rough” to be discovered here, where a new owner with a penchant for DIY and a green thumb could make a very smart investment.
In fact, 5280 Magazine recently named Barnum West to its list of “Denver’s Best Neighborhoods,” citing its safety records and soaring home values. While the neighborhood is almost completely residential, its north and west borders of 6th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard offer easy access to a host of restaurants and retail and short commutes to the mountains or downtown.
